Employer
Prof. dr hab. med. Tomasz Kostka, the head of the Clinic of Geriatrics
Work description
Shadowing doctors, discussing patients' pharmacotherapy, introducing data to database, basic statistics, visiting other departments, physical examination of patients taking part in an experiment called SCOPE (Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment)
Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
Since the accommodation was free the salary was sufficient.
Language requirements
English is enough but knowing basic Polish was a huge advantage, I was able to communicate with patients by myself
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
Dormitories, double room, free of charge, provided by the Medical University
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
Every trainee had a buddy/buddies from IAESTE to take care of her/him. I got three sweet girls who picked me up in the airport, helped me anyime I needed, took me to dinner, we grabbed beer, went to a rope center... There was taken really good care of me :)
Meeting other foreign students
Everyone lived in the same dormitories so it was easy to catch up with all the other students.
Sport and culture
There are many sport opportunities (gyms, pools, dance centres - I recommend a lot to take dance classes, price is low and quality very high....)
Food, local specialties
I consider Polish food very tasty but it's individual ;)
Other information
Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic
Not needed
Recommendations for students who will go to the same place
Always buy ticket while using public transport. There are many ticket inspectiors and they are not willing to discuss.
What not to forget with you
No need to bring anything (foodstuff, cosmetics...) cause everything is accessible and cheap in Poland.
Benefits of the internship
Great professional experience, new friendships, nex culture and country explored.
Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country
Very easy, I got answers to all my questions immediately, someone was always wondering if everything is all right, if there are any problems.
Overall experience with IAESTE
Amazing! 100 % recommended!
