Employer
AGH University of Science and Technology - Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics (https://www.agh.edu.pl/en/wydzial-inzynierii-mechanicznej-irobotyki/)
Work description
Building and simulating a PD-based adaptive control system for active vibration suppression using LabView.
Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
It was enough to survive but it wasn't enough for trips.
Language requirements
Mostly English except school cafeteria and supermarket where I had to try Polish.
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
I lived in a student dormitory which was close to the university. We were three people in the room but I didn't have to pay for it since I work for the university.
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
People from local IAESTE were very nice. They picked me up at the train station and told me all the necessary information right away. We hung out together quite often and everyone was also very patient with my slowly spoken english. So I was able to improve a lot.
Meeting other foreign students
We were meeting on trips, evening parties or events organised by local IAESTE. I met a lot of people from the whole world.
Sport and culture
It was possible to do some sports with other students and we went to the cinema.
Food, local specialties
They have similar food as in Czech Republic. But of course they have some specialities such as pierogi.
Other information
Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic
Phone, the Internet is included in the price of accommodation. You can use Eduroam at the university.
Recommendations for students who will go to the same place
It's better to start your internship in July. In June or earlier everyone still has exam period so there is much less people. Most of events and trips are organised in July and August.
What not to forget with you
I didn't miss anything in particular. If you forget something you can buy it or you can borrow stuff from other students.
Benefits of the internship
It was an amazing experience for me. I improved my English a lot, mostly speaking and reacting in everyday situations. At work I tried in practice what I learned theoretically at school. I met lots of new people from different countries.
Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country
Even though I was there during their exam period there were alvays some people able to make time for me. Cracow IAESTE has lots of members and they are super nice. If I needed to deal with something personaly there was always someone willing to come to the dorm and help me. So I didn't had to travel through the city getting lost.
Overall experience with IAESTE
The paper work is very complicated. I had to fill in 15 forms, then I had to wait several months without any information from IAESTE, then I had to fill in some of those forms again and I didn't know If I was accepted. After dealing with formalities everything was fine.
Student's website
I didn't need any website, we were in touch via facebook.
