About the country

Location of the place

Amazing country, i would advise it to anyone. Beautiful mountains, hills , beaches , coast . You can find anything in Ecuador from the nature.

City

Qutio is the capital city, approx. 2500 meters high above the sea level. For slovak guy as me, who is used to live in 300meters above sea level its a really something unique . But you can use to it really fast. City is pretty big, divided to 2 parts, South(getto) and North, i was living at first directly in the middle of city, but then i have moved to the one of the best parts of the Quito, with family and it was completely different and amazing.

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)

From Quito you can travel everywhere, you want to go to the sea? Ok, book your bus and in approx. 7 hours you are at the ocean. Are you bored with coasts and nice weather? In 3 hours you can be on the highest volcano in almost 5 km high. Around city you have lot of cultural and natural places to visit. Middle of the world is like 30 mins from Quito.

Work description

The student will be in charge of the social media ,set guidelines for the marketing department and propose specific advertisement campaigns. Corporate
image, loyalty programs, and advertisement campaigns.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

I was paid 380 Usd, which was okay, for living at least, but if you want to enjoy the life there properly, you have to count on your own funds.

Language requirements

English was enough, but people enjoy more speaking spanish there.

Accommodation (price, who provided it)

I paid for hostel room , without bathroom, single room 210 usd. Which was prettty okay, but then i was paying 250usd for family with allinclusive service and that was completely other experience!

Hostel is provided by IAESTE, the family helped me to find my boss.

Social life

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)

Everything was amazing, from the begining they picked me up, were friendly and whole IAESTE Family was a really part of family for me. For everyone was like a goodbye party, and it was pretty nice. Every weekend we had some organised event somewhere, but they always listened to our(mostly mine :D ) feedback and advices .

Meeting other foreign students

We lived together in a hostel , so it was pretty easy to get to know each other, especially, when you´ve shared place with 10 polish people across 2 hostels :D

Sport and culture

I didnt notice something completely different apart from our culture. They do a lot of sport indeed. And they are really south americans, so everything is tranquillo :D chilling

Food, local specialties

They eat guinea pig, that is their speciality. But it varies from place to place , in mountains they eat a bit different than at the coast (fresh fishes, shrimps)

But in general, food is really similar to us, but i miss the fruit from there :(

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place

Enjoy it! It´s completely different experience than anything i have experienced in my life. Enjoy everything, you will see lot of things in one small , beautiful country.

What not to forget with you

Sun protection 50+ , and normal things you need for life, nothing extra special . everything you can find there

Benefits of the internship

I learned a lot about a new country, continent and culture. Internship gave me insight to new fields of the marketing. I learned a spanish language and want to come back.
