Bc Dominik Čapkovič, UCT Prague,
ročník 4About the country
Location of the place
City Kogens Lyngby is located approx 13 kilometers from the centre of Copenhagen, which is really good connected with public transport directly to the centre. Location is really nice - close to the capital city, sea, lakes, parks, shops,...
City
Lyngby has small main street, but you can find a lot of shops, restaurants, markets. Train stop to the centre is approx 50 meters from the main street. Danish people are conservative, so there is not any bars, clubs and for them it is needed to go to Copenhagen. Everybody is used to use bicycle instead of public transport and generally it is faster.
Surroundings (possible trips, ...)
Surroundings are really nice to fill free moments after work. There are two big lakes, where is possible to kayaking, swimming and etc and one great park with deers - Dyrehaven. It is nice to relax or do some sports in it. On the east it could be find see and beaches with volleyball playgrounds. All beaches are sandy. It is surprising that sea is warm.
Employer
Employer
Haldor Topsoe is the greatest company for chemical engineers. They develop catalysts for all chemical industry and also they design the plants. Danish people are so relaxed and they do not push you to do something, everything is only up to you how you plan your work, experiments,...
Work description
I worked in Department of Ammonia Synthesis. I got one project which I had to lead - plan work, prepare experiments, some analyses and etc. When I obtained results I had a meeting with my supervisor where we discussed the results and what to do next. I needed to communicate with a lot of people from different departments.
Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
Salary is nice but unfortunately taxes are too high :( :-D
Language requirements
All Danish people knows English and it does not matter on the age, so in work it was not any problem with different language than Danish.
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
I lived at the dorm, where I got one room with bathroom just for me. I lived at Kampsax, which is great, because it is close to Haldor Topsoe. Then I lived at POP Kollegiet (another dorm) and it took me 25 min to get to work by bicycle. After my experience I prefer Kampsax.
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
They are great!!! Every Tuesday is Weakly which is collective dinner. One prepare meal at the kitchen in DTU with other people who help him/her with preparation. For weekends, still some parties, meetings or trips. They really helpful and they help you with everything, so do not worry to ask.
Meeting other foreign students
Usually we met at IAESTE's events, parties,...
Sport and culture
Everybody do bicycling to/from work so even I had to :-D In weekends are still some events in Copenhagen.
Food, local specialties
In Copenhagen you can find almost all cuisines so it depends on you what you prefer.
Other information
Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic

Probably it is nice to use application Revolut. You create your account and get you paying card. Your Revolut account is directly connected by your phone number and your personal bank account. It has the lowest course for transferring money. You load money with your national currency to Revolut, than you transfer it to currency where you temporary live without any bank fee and with better course than banks use and you can pay by card. I payed the rent by it and I saved a lot of money. Unfortunately I discovered about this app in the end of my internship. I highly recommend you to find out more about this great app.
