My internship was mainly in Skopje - the capital of Macedonia - where are located offices of the company. One week I spent in Debar where is a factory and mining place.

75% of the Skopje was destroyed during the earthquake in 1963. After that was city built again - architecture of 70's (e.g. brustalist architecture). In 2010 started a huge reconstruction of the center of the city which still continuous. The aim of the reconstruction in "neoclassicism" center.
The most interesting part of the city is Old bazaar (Stara skopska čaršija), close is fortress Kale. Above the city stands Mount Vodno with the Millennium Cross.

Debar is small town on the west of the Macedonia close Albanian borders. Majority of the inhabitants are Albanians. Town is situated under mountains next to Lake Debar.

Macedonia is a small country and it is easy to travel through.

Knauf DOOEL Skopje and Knauf-Radika AD

They are part of the international Knauf Group based in Germany. Knauf is a company producing a huge range of building materials. In Debar is located mining place of gypsum and the factory processing gypsum and producing products from it such as gypsum boards or dry mix products based on gypsum.

During 8 weeks long internship I went through all departments of the company - e.g. sales department, marketing, factory... I had a mentor in every department. In some departments I spent one or two days (calculation) in some departments I spent whole week (marketing).

15 000 MKD = 240 EUR per month
I got approximately minimum Macedonian wage. And it's not easy to live in Skopje with this money.

Excelent English or German language

The accommodation provided by IAESTE did not have a good rating, so I booked my own Airbnb accommodation. I chose a room in the center of Skopje for 12 500 MKD (200 EUR). Maybe a little expensive but very nice apartment.

They picked me up at the airport.
They didn't organise any events or trips.

There was no other foreign students.

I did not care what the possibilities are there.

Macedonian cuisine is similar to cuisine of the other Balkan states.
My favourite Macedonian dishes were ćevapi, pljeskavica, egg omelet with cheese and fish soup. A lot of the sweets such as tulumba, baklava or lokum (Turkish origin).
From the huge range in bakery I would recommend Burek and Pastrmajlija.
