About the country

Location of the place

Wetzikon is average sized city which is about 20 minutes far by train from Zurich. This part of Switzerland does not have big mountains but it has a lot of very nice lakes.

City

In this city there is not that much going on. Time to time there are parties in KulturFabrik (Old factory place) and small pubs. The most popular transportation here are bikes (as probably in the rest of whole Swiss). On the other hand it is friendly place and many unknown people will greet you on streets.

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)

Next to Wetzikon you can find Pfäffikersee (small-ish lake). This lake is crystal clear and there is running track around it (cca 11km). For the best view on Zurich region it is needed to go on Bachtel hill. It is 15 minutes by car from Wetzikon and if the weather is clear it is possible to see almost all Zurich region. In case of bad weather the Zurich is 20 minutes by train away.

Employer

Leopfe Brothers - middle sized company (200pp) which was established 60 years ago. They are creating quality checking sensors for machines working with yarns. Almost all employees are able to speak English so you do not need to worry. Friendly and focused working environment. Possibility to check your development on real hardware.

Work description

Creating python scripts for sensor logs analysis. There were some scripts already created and therefore it was not that big problem to start. I have had free hands on how the tools will be created and therefore I have tried different approaches, which was quite good.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

2600 CHF / month - sufficient for accommodation, food and trips. Salary is paid on 25th.

Language requirements

English in good level. Everybody is speaking English. German is an advantage but not needed.

Accommodation (price, who provided it)

750 CHF per month. Provided by Swiss Iaeste party.

Social life

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)

IAESTE Swiss is creating a lot of events so just pick some and go ;)

Meeting other foreign students

Only one foreign student in Loepfe but I have met them at IAESTE Swiss events.

Sport and culture

Lots of people are running around the lake. I have registered to volleyball club (VBC Wetzikon) and played there.
Culture - Not much. Small events during the year. Some pubs, restaurants, discos,... If you want culture, just go to Zurich :D.
