About the country

Location of the place

The city is under the Alps in the south of Austria. First thing to buy there is umbrella because rains there are short but frequent.

City

Graz is the capital of Styria and the second-largest city in Austria after Vienna. Its historic centre is one of the best-preserved city centres in Central Europe. If you get there I really recommend to visit Schlossberg.

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)

You can visit Copacabana beach near Karlsdorf or hiking around Mixnitz. Very nice place is the lake near Klagenfurt, but it is about two hours away from Graz.

Employer

Employer

TDK EPCOS - Deutschlandsberg

Work description

Characterization of driver for plasma generator. I was doing experiments to determine offsets and behavior of both plasma generator and the driver.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

It was sufficient for local conditions and I had some spare change to travel around.

Language requirements

Everybody speaks english.

Accommodation (price, who provided it)

275 euro and It was provided by dormitory of local Karl-Franz university.

Social life

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)

I was picked up at train station and shown where to go register and create bank account. There were a lot of events organized in Graz, surroundings and abroad.

Meeting other foreign students

I have met a lot of new people. Most of them IAESTE trainees or members.

Sport and culture

I didnt have much time for sports or culture due to excess amount of traveling.

Food, local specialties

I recommend Wiener Schnitzel to everybody. And "Ein großes Bier, bitte" is also usefull phrase considering food.

Other information

Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic

Well since the roaming works everywhere in EU, you wont feel any difference crossing border. You can call home any time for same prizes, using data, anything...

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place

Enjoy your time and try to attend as much events as possible.

What not to forget with you

Well dont forget your papers. Other than that you can buy there. Camera would be usefull, but the phone is sufficient.

Benefits of the internship

I learned a lot at work. I acquired practical skills and also get to know how working in reaserch department of a big company looks like. I have met a lot of people. Practiced speaking english and traveled a lot. I dont see any minus.

Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country

The foreign IAESTEs were very cooperative and fast responsive. I did not have any problem.

Overall experience with IAESTE

As I said I had no problem, therefore I am very satisfied.
