Bc. Christine Baierová, University of West Bohemia,
ročník 5About the country
Location of the place
Austria is a wonderful country and it's near Czech Republic so the trip is not that long.
City
Vienna is amazing place. Remarkable sightseeing, chilling near the Danube, beautiful views, lots of clubs and great night life...
Surroundings (possible trips, ...)
You can take a train and go to Bratislava or go hiking to lower Austria... basically whatever you want.
Employer
Employer
I was working at the University of Vienna with many other students.
Work description
I was programming in Python a software which predicted toxicity of uploaded molecules.
Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
around 1500 Eur/month, yes it was enough to bring some home.
Language requirements
Almost everybody is speaking English in Vienna. But I understood German quite well.
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
I was living in a dorm in Floridsdorf (far from the city center but good transport connection), 410 Eur/ month. I had a room only for myself with bathroom and WC. There are a lot of supermarkets nearby. Bring your own LAN cable and sheets.
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
First and second day was IAESTE guy taking care of me. There were also some events organized by IAESTE.
Meeting other foreign students
There were many other foreign students in my working place.
Sport and culture
You can do anything in Vienna - I was playing beach volleyball and swimming. But you can also do bungee jumping from Donauturm or whatever.
Food, local specialties
Wiener Schnitzel, Apfelstrudel, Sachertorte... Visit some Vienna's cafes!
Other information
Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic
The same like you were in Czech Republic :-)
Recommendations for students who will go to the same place
Just do it. Vienna is amazing city but also slightly more expensive than Czech Republic so count with it.
What not to forget with you
Don't forget LAN cable and router would be even better. Also bring your own sheets and cooking supplies.
Benefits of the internship
Language, meeting new people, culture, learn some skills... there are so many!
Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country
First and second day IAESTE member explained to me everything and took me to my job place.
Overall experience with IAESTE
Professional and organized.
