Surroundings (possible trips, ...)
I lot possibilities to make trips during internship during weekends.
I made SaPa, Ha Long Bay, Cat Ba, Ninh Binh, BaBe, Hanoi...
There is a lot of buses from Thai Nguyen or Hanoi.
Sometimes you need help from Vietnamese people to arrange everything, because nobody (drivers) can speak English :)

Work description
I was supposed to teach environmental subject at ISTNU. I hadn´t studied it before so I was afraid first how I could manage it, but I got some books and in the end it was not problem. I studied it first, I prepared my lectures, deliver lectures, we organized seminars with students and I tried to do my best to help them with studying environmental subjects and English. Students were kind and respectful. My teacher assistant helped me with everything.
Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
1 900 000/ month. Sufficient for cheap way of living, not for travelling. And accommodation is for free. You can find-part-time job, teaching English is well paid). It is not easy to earn money for flight-tickets in Vietnam.
Language requirements
English. Be prepare that pronunciation of students and teachers is different. After a month you will get used to is :) More than half Vietnamese are not able to speak English at all. Google translator is very usefull. Vietnamese language is difficult to learn.
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
I had it for free, my University paid for me. It was not the best, I lived at the dormitories and it was quite noisy, dirty and during nights I had problems with hot temperatures (in September). But it was for free :)
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
Pick-up on airport was managed by employer. They also hepled me with accomodation. Everytime I needed anything they try to do their best for me and they were very helpful. Every Wednesday there was a meeting in pub with IAESTE students.
Meeting other foreign students
I meet foreign students very often. We made trips during weekends, sometimes we had lunch or dinner together... We also lived with some of them at the dormitories.
Sport and culture
Not easy :) I tried to run, but everybody was staring at me :D
Gyms are very popular and cheap, but in some of them there is no AC, so there is about 35 °C in the summer :)
There are some places where you can play tennis, volleyball...

Other comments
Vietnam is great, beautifull, but not for everyone. If you are not able to live in worse hygienic condition it is not perfect for you :) Vietnamese people are not so organized so we are. But I am really happy I did it! It was open-minding experience for me!
