Great attitude to trainees from supervisors.
Work description
Main part of my work contents from designing in computer program SolidWorks and plastic 3D printing. Next, few days I worked on CNC machine. I saw how seeds are separated and fourniture made in my supervisor workshop.
Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
I earned 120 000 HUF per month so it makes about 400 €. My cost (food, accommodation, travelling, fun) per month was about 350€.
Language requirements
I have officialy B1 level, but I understood well. However I was accepted as an expert. In company I could speak only with my supervisors and other trainees, because many workers didn't speak English or very bad. In the dormitory everybody spoke fluently and understandable in English, so communication was very good.
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
First 2 week I was lodged on hostel at center of Pécs with price 10€ per day. Because it was to much with my earnings I moved to dormitory where costs was 2 times lower. My accommodoation was 20 min far from centrum by foot. I had big sight on town from my balcony because I lived on hill which raised over the Pécs. This dormitory was clean and every week servants checked my room and dumped out trash.
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
I arrived by train and nobody pick-up me so I had to transport by myself to accocmodation. I was on Graz and Budapest Weekend where I met a lot of students all around the world. It's event where you partying and meeting with students from other cultures for whole weekend. It was great.
Meeting other foreign students
I worked with chinese trainee at same place, the most foregin students I met during Graz and Budapest Weekend, this events was organizing by IAESTE. There were students from all over the world. It was interesting to know other cultures and life-styles.
Sport and culture
You can do what you want, jogging, swimming, football... There are many festivals too. For example Sziget is one of biggest festivals of Europe. In Pécs are few museums with pictures and sculptures. Next in pécs is organized Fény festival with light show on streets during summer. Its beautiful for eyes and in addition there are different street artist performances.
Food, local specialties
I had lunch in work. Lunch was in other village when we went by car. For dinner cooked by myself in dormitory's kitchen food bought in supermarket or go to restaurant which there was a lot in center. But this isn't traditional hungarian food, if you want good traditional hungarian food, you must visit smaller town where these food are usually cooked.
Other information
Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic
I had internet in dormitory and company, so I communicated with people in Czech Republic by email and social media. In other cases by phone.
Recommendations for students who will go to the same place
There is hot, one jacket and jeans are enough. You will have to create hungary bank account, avoid OTP bank if you can (i hadn't good experience with this bank). If you can stay longer there, because in september students are arriving to university so the city is full of students.
What not to forget with you
swim siuts, sunscreen, camera
Benefits of the internship
if you decide to go on internship so then you gain work experiences, improve your English and meet students from all over world. You gain great experiences and i think it might be your best summer.
Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country
Cooperation wasn't good as I expected because of bad organization from my IAESTE coordinator. On the other hand other coordinators was helpful and they helped me when I moved to my accommodation. But during summer she rezigned and was replaced.
Overall experience with IAESTE
I went through the trainee inteview, they was kind and gave me chance to improve my CV and speaking skills. After lot of paperwork I was prepare to leave my country. My arrival was little puzzled because there was some problems with lodging and I got information about accommodation adress two days before arrival. Rest continued smoothly.
