London - easy to go anywhere by metro system.
I had travel card for zone 1 and 2 London metro system for free, provided by Imperial college.
Exploring London takes a bit of time so enjoy. :)

Work description

Research. I was given a project, almost empty table. I had to manage my time, and deliver results. It wouldn't be
possible without great support from Imperial college staff.

I was working in general research about conjugated polymers, which can be used for a transportation of ions.
I was coupling electrochemical measurements with, absorption measurements. Trying to optically prove presence
of ions in the polymer.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

I had 120GBP/week. Free transportation and accommodation.
Salary was sufficient for food and other general expenses.

Language requirements

Fluent in English.

Accommodation (price, who provided it)

I had a room and bathroom for myself, alltogether about 10m^2. Kitchen was shared.
Building was about two years old.

Accommodation was provided by my host university, for free.

Social life

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)

UK IAESTE organized many events throw the summer. However, I was so busy that I couldn't attend any. :(

Meeting other foreign students

The school and IAESTE organized many events throw out the whole summer. I attended couple events organized by my employer; lunches picknicks etc. Those weren't as much time consuming.

Sport and culture

Free gym membership provided by Imperial college. Possibilities for running, swimming, indoor cardio, weightlifting, and games.

Food, local specialties

Fish and chips (of course!)

Other information

Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic

Like, usually: internet - email and skype, phone calls (about 2p/min), postcards.

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place

Bring some extra money to spend.
Take advantage of college bars.
Work hard, it's gonna pay off.

What not to forget with you

Flip flops, umbrella, things for a sport you like.
