Natália Prídavková, Brno University of Technology,
ročník 3About the country
Location of the place
Lodz is in the center of Poland, so it was very easy to visit other cities.
City
Lodz wasn't the nicest city in the Poland, but there was a lot of other trainees, so I wasn't the worst choice :D
Surroundings (possible trips, ...)
It's around 2 hours away from Warsaw an it's worth to see. I visited also Torun and Gdansk and it was really nice. I totally recommend to go there.
Employer
Employer
Company 'Budem Projekt' in Zgierz (1,5h away from my dormitory in Lodz by tram). It's an old company but surprisingly with lot of young people. Tereza, director of company, was really nice person and she always gave us some free days when we asked for :)
Work description
I'm a traffic constructor and I was drawing wooden roofs in AutoCAD - in polish language :D and made some designs in Robot. For me it wasn't very interesting, but supervisor was nice a we talked a lot about 'practical engineering' so... it wasn't wasting time :D but most of the time I was really bored, just drawing in AutoCAD all the time, ewh, not for me. But the working time was ehm, 'light' :D I was working from 9-11 lunch for 1 hour, sometimes more and 12-2. No one cared about that...
Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
850 PLN/month >> 200€ It's enough for living there, but not for traveling
Language requirements
In work and between trainees I used English, but in 'normal life on the streets' it was really helpful that I'm Slovak :D Even in bars and restaurants I had problems with english and it was not because of my level of english...
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
for free provided by IAESTE
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
No one picked me at bus station but it wasn't needed, we got "guide book" before arrival and there was all information I needed (map, what tram I should take to get to dorms and so on...).
In Poland they have a lot of summer receptions - almost in every city, so you can go every weekend to the organized events by IAESTE.

Meeting other foreign students
It was very easy to meet them since we all live in the same dormitory (around 50 trainees), and I also have 5 colleagues=trainees in my work.
Sport and culture
Lodz is a big city, so I didn't miss anything. I was going to gym and permanent ticket costs comparatively the same like in Brno.
Food, local specialties
Polish food is very similar to czech/slovak food - nothing special for me. But for sure you should try it: pierogi, bigos, zapiekanka, szarlotka...
Other information
Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic
I didn't need it
Recommendations for students who will go to the same place
Give it the chance! Yeah, I know that Lodz is post-communistic and industrial city, but there is so many nice places to see. Don't miss "murals" - street art or Jewish memorials ;)
What not to forget with you
Take more warm clothes ;) weather is kind of crazy - rain&sun, very changeable
Benefits of the internship
I've met so many wonderful people and make a lot of friends and get to know new cultures (and I don't mean only polish ;) Now I have friends in Hong-kong, China, Malta, Denmark, Libanon, Iran, Israel, Croatia....
Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country
without problems, I've got answers for all my questions
Overall experience with IAESTE
I love IAESTE for giving me this great experience.
