Master Iva Čermáková, CTU Prague,
ročník 6About the country
Location of the place
Bucharest is literally in the middle of nowhere- middle of Romania. But on the other hand the location is perfect- not far to the beautiful mountains of Transylvania, not far to the Black Sea coastline
City
Bucharest is very cool city, full of nice parks, beautiful old buildings, cozy litte cafés. Of course you can still see some remains of hards times but still, I realy like this city and it´s atmosphere
Surroundings (possible trips, ...)
2 hours by train to the mountains, 2 hour by train to the seaside= perfect position. I recommend trips to Constanta, Brasov, Sinaia, even to Varna in Bulgaria, which is also very nice
Employer
Employer
Lots of young people and all of them very nice. Some of them has some troubles with English.
Work description
Drawing plans, facades, sections in AutoCAD, some graphics in Photoshop. Generally the company works on residential buildings
Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
Kind of okay if you don´t go for a trip every weekend.
Language requirements
English
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
Students dorms, I dont remember the price but it was quite cheap. Provided by local IAESTE.They take money from your salary so you don´t have to care about it. For the internet, ther is the extra fee 50 lei/month.
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
We were all picked up at the airport but that was the only time I´ve met someone from IAESTE. There were no organised events during my stay.
Meeting other foreign students
All the interns are staying ant the same place so it is easy to meet with them and plan activites and trips all together.
Sport and culture
There is a gym at the students dorm and it is possible to go for a run in the streets and parks. But it is quite hot during he summer in the city. Bucharest is full of cozy caffees, cool bars and pubs and crazy clubs. There is many museums, cinemas and so one, it is very cool city :).
Food, local specialties
Romanian cuisine is great. National food is sarmale with polenta and it is very delicous. Fruits and vegetables are very good and cheap there, delicious I could say.
Other information
Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic
interntet. Sim cards are super cheap in Romania so it worth it to byu one (10GB for 7 euros) and you can communicate any time you want if you wish.
Recommendations for students who will go to the same place
I do recommend to go to this company in Bucharest, it was a nice experience in an amazing city.
What not to forget with you
Anti-mosquito spray, patience- there is no hurry int the balkans :)
Benefits of the internship
New country, new culture, new friends, new experience
Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country
No cooperation at all except picking up at the airport. Since that I haven´t seen/ heard about local IAESTE at all
Overall experience with IAESTE
Not really impressed I think they can do they job better.
