Bc Sabína Sedlačková, Masaryk University,
ročník 4About the country
Location of the place
Brasil, state of Sao Paulo, city Botucatu
City
Botucatu is a relatively small city in the state of Sao Paulo, proximately 2 and half hour from capital of the state (Sao Paulo). From my perspective, city was safe and friendly. There are two big campuses (Rubiao, Lageado) UNESP, because of that a lot of students are in the city. Having fun is really easy here.
Surroundings (possible trips, ...)
There is a lot of option, what you can see and do there. City is really nice, beautiful catedral in the center, long street with shops, campuses are beautiful. Location of the city is perfect if you like nature and waterfalls, few of them are really close (max 30 min). UNESP is big university and the same can say about campuses in Botucatu. Lot of students from different part of state are there, because of that it is really easy find somebody who is traveling home or somewhere and offers a ride (carona). It is cheap and fast way how to travel.

Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
IAESTE members and volunteers were extremly helpfull, during my whole internship and also after that. They are offering accomodation, city tours and help with transport and really everithing. We had this motto: Helping Gringos (people not from Brasil) is cool :D.
Meeting other foreign students
I met people from all over the world.
Sport and culture

Food, local specialties
Some things are really cheap (fruits), some are really expensive (cheeses) comparing to europe. They use a lot of sugar to their sweets.
In Botucatu - try to visit BomPrato it is restaurant near hospital. Lunch cost 1 BRL there.
There is a lot of traditional food and it is really good. (pastels, coxinha, salgados ..).
I love it.

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place
Brazil is awesome. The best strategy in do not say no if it is safe. It is good to know portuguese because you can talk with more people, but they are trying to help you even if you don't know the language :)
What not to forget with you
If you want to prepare some traditional dish from your country for brazilians, it is better bring ingredients. I didn't find it here.
