About the country

Location of the place

Tajikistan is country which neighbours are Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, kyrgystan and China. The most of the area is covered by mountains. There two non mountains regions in Northern part it is area around the city Khujand and the southern one around the capital Dushanbe.

City

City has more or less one million inhabitants and is quite nice, but there is not so much thinks to do. For seeing the most attractive places are two days enough.

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)

There is so many possibilities. If you're the mountain lover, this is great place for you. The most amazing part of Tajikistan is Pamir, of course. It's one day drive far away from Dushanbe, but is really great. It says that the pamir region is one of the poorest part of the world. Closer to the capital are Fann mountains, where you can spend a lot of time us well. And many other options.

Employer

Shahrofar company is quite big (300 employees). My boss didn't speak English well, but in combination with Russian and using hands and legs, was possible to arrange everything.

Work description

It was little bit funny cause my boss didn't speak English. But we managed it somehow. I designed some Asian gates and big area Park for government.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

I get 500 somoni per month what is the minimum, which you can get. And it's not enough to pay your spends.

Language requirements

Pretty useful is know Russian, cause everyone speaks Russian. English know just few people and for normal life is useless. But I didn't speak Russian and managed it somehow us well.

Accommodation (price, who provided it)

I lived with native Tajik guy for free. Have separated room. Bad think was that I was cutted from other students so there was quite a lot of free time.

Social life

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)

Pickup was arranged perfectly. There was some organised events during the summer, when there is more iaeste people. Because it was late I was there alone. So they arranged for me some.guided sightseeing tours and some evenings hangouts
