About the country

Location of the place

My internship was located in Berlin, the capital of Germany.

City

Berlin is really big city with different areas.

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)

I could really recommend Potsdam, Dresden, but also just walking threw Berlin- different museums, parks.

Employer

Employer

I was emplyed by BAM- chemical divison. It was located on the south of Berlin.

Work description

I worked in laboratory almost by myself. My supervisor showed me everything and give me all important information which I needed. I worked on the polysterene nanoparticles, what is not exactly what I am doing in my lab, but it was really interesting. After that I had to characterize them by using different techniques.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

Salary was 650E it was enough only for the basic things like accommodation, food, drink and sometimes beer.

Language requirements

Almost everybody in Berlin can speak English, so it wasnt a problem. In my lab division, there were a lot of people from different countries, it was usual to speak in English.

Accommodation (price, who provided it)

My accommodation was in East Berlin. It costed 375 E and IAESTE people found it for me. I lived in my own room and I shared a flat with Belarus guy and Greek girl.
It wasnt perfect, but enough for two months.

Social life

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)

My buddy waited for me at bus station and took me to my accommodation and to my place of work.
The first Friday was meeting of Iaeste members and trainees so we could meet new friends.

Meeting other foreign students

The first Friday we met almost all of the interns and we spend a lot of time together.

Sport and culture

I love climbing so I found some places to boulder and in Berlin it wasnt problem. The culture life is worse in Berlin because you have to pay for everything. for example to entre the club., but we spend a lot of time together in park.

Food, local specialties

when you are in Berlin you have to try all of different fast foods and kitchens. my most favourite was burrito.

Other information

Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic

It wasnt problem, I had a wifi in my room.

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place

-

What not to forget with you

sleeping bag and sheets

Benefits of the internship

I could work with different machines which wouldnt have been possible in czech or in our university

Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country

It wasnt problem, they helped me with everything. at first it was little bit more complicated with my accommodation but after all we found something.

Overall experience with IAESTE
