ročník 2About the country
Location of the place
Very very very far north.
City
Tromsø
Tromsø lies in Northern Norway. The population is about 75,000 inhabitants. It is the third largest city north of the Arctic Circle. Most of Tromsø, including the city centre, is located on the island of Tromsøya, 350 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle.

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)
The surrounding is really beautiful. When the weather is nice, there are many possibilities for trip. There are many places or hiking that can be found on this website
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWVOuNELBSY
I recommend the highest hill around if the weather is really nice and the sky is clear. It is possible to rent a bike or kayak as well. For rainy days (and there are many of them in Tromsø) I recommend to visit Arctic cathedral, Polaria, Polar museum, Planetarium or take a bus through the under-ocean tunnel.

Accommodation (price, who provided it)
One member of local IAESTE rented me her own room. The room was in student apartments Prestvannet. I had my own bathroom and shared kitchen. The place was small, but cosy and clean. Everything was close, nearest bus stop 3 mins walking, nearest grocery store 5 mins walking and the city center 15 mins walking. Price was 6.000 NOK for 6 weeks.
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
One IAESTE member picked me from airport, showed me around, helped me to fix tax card etc. and took me for some events. Then I met other IAESTE members now and then at work, some events, hiking...
Meeting other foreign students
I did not meet many as I was in Tromsø during summer when students were home for hollidays and there were not any others IAESTE trainees. But those I met were really nice and quite talkative considering that they were norwegians.
Sport and culture
There are plenty possibilities for outdoor sports and all Norwegians do them.
Food, local specialties
Carrot cake, potatoe pancakes, fishes and whale meat.
Other information
Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic
Smoke signals, telepathy and other ways of spiritual connection. Skype or facebook can work as well.
Recommendations for students who will go to the same place
Take something to cover your eyes as the sun does not set in summer. In winter I would recommend vitamin D in order not to get depressed.
What not to forget with you
Warm clothes, rain coat and hiking shoes.
Benefits of the internship
Living in Norway for few weeks, getting to know new people, new culture, norwegian salary and chance to see how it looks like inside university department.
Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country
They conntacted me in advance, fixed everything for me so I actually did not have to do anything or think about anything just came and enjoyed my stay in Norway.
Overall experience with IAESTE
Very good

Be careful when it comes to distances! Norwegian mile is NOT the same as normal mile. And all shops are closed on Sundays, so you should always do your groceries in advance. And if you want to meet super duper nice Norwegians, go to church! (website provided above).
