Ondřej Kolman, University of West Bohemia,
ročník 3About the country
Location of the place
Belgium is a flat country between France and Germany.
City
Brussels is not most beautiful city compare to the other cities in Belgium. City center is full of tourists all day (even during a night). Every few blocks you can find some old statue and at least small park. Some parts of the city are quite old and you can see the beautiful architecture of the past time. Of course if you will visit European district you will be amazed with all new buildings and skyscrapers.
Surroundings (possible trips, ...)
Less than hour by train from Brussels you can visit Brugge, Antwerp or Gent. It's impossible to describe how beautiful these cities are. You have to go there and see it with your own eyes. If you are lucky you can swim in Nord see or rent a board and try surfing.
Employer
Employer
NATO - really big "company" with real multicultural environment.
Work description
I was working on one project linked to HQ moving to new building. Our department was responsible for testing all applications after migration on new environment. My job was to analyse how can we invite 20% of users to test applications and how to track that we didn't forget about any application. After analysis I had to implement every possible scenario. We used MS access as our database with tons of business logic based on VBA.
Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
Brussels is city with really high cost of living. If you want to travel around Belgium or if you want to go for party/BBQ sometimes 800€ is not enough.
Language requirements
English or French on advanced level.
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
400€ for two small rooms (one office and small bedroom), shared bathroom and kitchen with other 4 people on my floor.
I found it on Internet.

Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
First time I met some IAESTE Brussels member was after one month when they organised BBQ on university campus.
I think they organised some events but I never join them because in work was around 40 interns so we made our own program.

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place
Spend some time to look for good accommodation, don't do it week before your internship start

Enough money for first month
Benefits of the internship
I improve my English level and meet a lot of new people from all over the world
Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country
Almost none, I need to force them to help me find an accommodation.
Overall experience with IAESTE
