Work description

Working on a project at the department of Nuclear materials recycling. Leaching swarf waste from steel production.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

17000 SEK on the 25th of a month. Yes, it was sufficient.

Language requirements

Everyone at the department spoke fluent English. Most people in Sweden speak English as well.

Accommodation (price, who provided it)

6200 SEK/month. I had to find accommodation on my own. My employer helped, gave me recommendations which web sites to look at.

Social life

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)

No, there was no contact from IAESTE side.

Meeting other foreign students

There were a lot of foreign students at the department (PhDs, masters working on thesis etc...). We had a wonderful group at my workplace as well. A lot of other Erasmus students at the university.

Sport and culture

Climbing is popular in Sweden, I went to the climbing hall regularly with my colleagues. There are great parks for running around the city as well. Bike can came in handy as there are many bike lanes on the roads and most of the city is flat. Go to Liseberg amusement park and enjoy some fun.

Food, local specialties

Fika break for coffee and some sweets. Visit one of the espresso house branches and get a coffee and a cake, or Da Matteo branches.

Other information

Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place

Travel as much as you can. Archipelago islands are reachable by public transport and ferry under an hour from the city center. Definitely worth a visit. Explore Swedish culture. Get a coffee and a pastry in one of the bakeries in the city. Walk through Haga district and visit Cafe Husaren. Go for a walk or a run through Slottsskogen park and visit a zoo there or get some food and make a picnic. Go for a weekend trip to Oslo ar Stockholm (reachable in 3-4 hours by bus/train).

What not to forget with you

Raincoat, sport clothes and warm socks

Benefits of the internship

I met so many wonderful people during my stay! Improved my English and made new friends. Had the opportunity to get to know Swedish culture. Experience what Fika means.

Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country

Overall experience with IAESTE

Fast and productive communication from Czech side. Unfortunately no help and almost no reply from Swedish side regarding helping me find accommodation.
