Bachelor Ondřej Broda, CTU Prague,
ročník 4About the country
Location of the place
The city is quite big. Has big lake in the middle so traveling aroud takes lot of time. The city has a normal infrastucture about transportation and everything. Has old town, which is the most beautiful part. Other parts are less beautiful but okey.
City
City is Tunis, capital of Tunisia. Situated on coast so the beach is close. Must see is Gammarth where is located all the clubs in Tunis, also the medina (old city) traditional market for arabic countries. You can buy there everything. La MArsa has the most beautiful beach in Tunis. Sidi bou said - tunisian part of greek. Part of tunis where is all building in white and blue combination, but more turistic so more expensive.
Surroundings (possible trips, ...)
The IA guys making trips for you every weekend during the summer, but if you want to travel by your own you can. You have tu try Sousse, Monastir, Tabarka, Bizerte or just ask people aroud. There is big shared taxi for traveling or train or bus.
Employer
Employer
My boss was really good, but his english vocabulary wasnt that good. It was small compady aroud 5 people. But I had my own office without computer, so bring yours. The whalo office is big enough for 4 peole.
Work description
They have some problems about giving me somthing for work. I was in field sometimes and sometimes I was working from office but not full hours. So the o-form was different from real work.
Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
I think the salary 450 TDN wasnt sufficient. Like you can live with these money but without any luxury. Becase you have to buy water becase tap is not drinkable. Also thniks there are sometimes really expensive. From my counting enough for me will be aroud 600-700 TDN.
Language requirements
The english is not popular for people who are older. like 50+ they are speaking only french or arabic. The younglings are speaking english and people in your age are okey. My boss speaking barely english.
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
Accommodation was provided by IAESTE and it was best. All inters are on one place so you meet everyone and make big partyes. But is without AC you only have fan, without wifi. But that advatage of being together is more then cons.
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
Zeah every weekend was a trip near the tunis. Then one big SOuth trip in the middle of summer. They spend time with inters everyday. They are best in the world!!! I lovge them!!
Meeting other foreign students
All inters are living in one building so you meet everyone in first two days!
Sport and culture
Yes not far from flat is basketball and footbal playgrounds
Food, local specialties
Yes of course, you have to eat streetfood not restaurant but bistros on the street. It is spicy because of harisa but you can say without. Lablebi, Lebanies, Makloub, Malfuf, Bambalony, Fricase, thats food you have to try.
Other information
Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic
Emails, Facebook, Messenger
Recommendations for students who will go to the same place
Definitely save some money before for trips because you have to pay for them. Keep bills from exchanging euros/dollars to TND because you will need it in the end when you want to chage back. Be prepare for more friendly enviroment then in your country.
What not to forget with you
Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, long sleved clothes for formal thing like work etc.
Benefits of the internship
I have lot of friends now. My englis improve, practise spanish, find out lot of information from other interns
Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country
Very good, they comunicade with me before I left my county also in Tunisia they were very friendly and at least one of them is spending free time with you.
