Work description

I worked in the Department of Bacteriology. The main aim of the research was connected with the establishment of a new vaccine against Vibrio Cholerae bacteria. This huge research work was made by talented researcher PhD Sareh Bagheri supervised by Dr. Bita Bakhshi. I took part in the passage of cells, media preparation and changing of the media for the better growth of the cell cultures. Also, I gained experience in animal trials of the vaccine on mice and have learned the principle of making probiotic suspensions. Furthermore, we controlled the cytotoxicity test by MTT test assay.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

8 000 000 rials. For this money is possible to buy two pair of shoes or four dresses, or to eat salad with one drink for eight times :)

Accommodation (price, who provided it)

Dormitory was provided IAESTE Irán. Price: 15000000 rials, was paid by my employer. Each girl had room just for herself. It was really nice there. With other interns we became friends and spent time together. Each room has: refrigerator, two beds, one table and a shelf. Kitchen is well equipped. Everything is good there except huge big cockroaches on the first floor or one time we saw it in bathroom. You know, it is not a five-star hotel, but it is clean and cosy there.

Social life

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)

My mentor Rojina was so nice to me, she picked me up at the airport, helped with accommodation. By IAESTE was organised grill party, mountain trip. Nima was a really great mentor, who helped with a lot of organisational staff, was always on a contact.

Meeting other foreign students

We stay on a contact with all girls from there. Now I am happy to have friends from Tunisia, Poland, Sweden, Germany. All people I met there were amazing.
