Location of the place
Internship took place in the capital of Belgium - Brussels, in Vrije Universiteit Brussel. It's one of the finest belgian universities.
City
Brussels, very nice city full of opportunities for your free time. Concerts, events of every kind, museums etc. It's perfect for young people looking for some entertainment. Don't forget to try belgian beers, fries and waffles!
Surroundings (possible trips, ...)
Other belgian citties like Gent, Antwerp, Brugge or go to see the sea in Ostende for example.

Work description
I was cooperating with Microbiology department (because of my bio-centred background). I was analysing their samples with techniques like FTIR or SEM. Also I learned to work with Reometry, testing bio-based hydrogels.
Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
200eur per week, sufficient for paying the rent having some extra money to spend.
Language requirements
English was essencial. VUB is a Dutch speaking university but the environment is very international so everybody speaks English anyway.
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
VUB can provide accomodation, I had my own though.
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
I didn't meet any IAESTE member but I didn'even need to, I lived in Brussels for a year before starting the internship. I didn't know of any events organised by IAESTE.
Meeting other foreign students
VUB is full of interesting foreighn students from all around the world. Only within my department I met people from Germany, India, Pakistan or Iran.
Sport and culture
VUB has a nice sportscentre with a wide variety of sport activities for you. Brussels itself is full of culture of any kind. Lots of museums, theatres, concerts, exhibitions and much more.
Food, local specialties
Beer, french fries, waffles, pralines!!

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place
Go see local food and flea markets, BOZAR is great place for all kinds of art events, buy a GO pass - it is 10 ways train ticket for 53eur which makes one way super cheap and you can travel the country.

Positive attitude and passion to learn more, that's always appreciated.

I didn't comunicate with belgian IAESTE.
