Location of the place

Botucatu is small town 4 hours from Sao Paulo by bus. Botucatu is inland and quite far from the coast.

City

Botucatu is small students town in the state of Sao Paulo. Botucatu is calm, safe and nice. Everything is kind of close each other. Is possible to walk or take a bus. Botucatu has many options to do any sport, to eat in many types of restaurants for a good price.

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)

Around Botucatu are many waterwalls where you can swim, enjoy whole day in the nature or do rappeling in the waterwall.
State of Sao Paulo has many nice places to see. A beautiful island Ilhabela where are lovely beaches and waterfalls, Sao Paulo, beach in Santos, where you can take public lesson of surfing during the week for free.

An amazing person who cares about students a lot! I fell welcomed and confortable to work with her team.

Work description

I worked in the laboratory of insects past management at the University. People from the team with who I spent two months became my friends and I went to the work happy and with a pleusure.
I helped many people with them research so I could get various experiences.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

Salary 700 reais. It's not a lot but is normal scholarship which the students have here.

Language requirements

In general in Brazil no everybody speaks English very well but Botucatu where I lived is studnets place and most of people speak English. People with I worked speak English with me. Even my internship was in English I had many opportunities to learn Portuguese.

Accommodation (price, who provided it)

I payed 500 reais for the accommodation in a sisterhood where I lived with the other 7 girls and the price included housekeeper who cooked lunch avery day. I spent 80 reais per week for food for what I didn't save money I lot. 60 reais/week it could be enought.

Social life

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)

IAESTE member didn't picked me up at the aiport because I was travelling before and I told her it's not neccessary but I could leave my suitcase in the girl's house during my travelling around brazil so it was really nice of her.

Meeting other foreign students

Only Brazilians but I prefered to meeting local.

Sport and culture

Many options of sports. Football, handball, swimming in the A.A.F club where is pool inside and also outside. Fitness centers are almost everywhere with various prices. In Botucatu is popular to have personal trainner (25 reais/class - Academia KBG), fitness center with group lessons (100 reais/month) or basic gym (60 reais - Academia Atletica). Muay Thai with a nice teacher (Bear Team 60 reais/month trainning 3 times/week).

Many places with a life brazilian music every weekend.

Food, local specialties

Many various restaurants. Brazilian restaurant is kind of BBQ (Churrasco) for 20 reais All you can eat with a meet, vegetable, bean and other various side dishes (Kiosque Bar & Restaurante).

Easily but I bought brazilian sim card because of internet.

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place

Living in Republica (accomodation with more people) is nice for sharing culture, people in Botucatu mostly speak English but not everybody so it would be nice to know basic of Portuguese. Is aesy to walk everywhere, I bought a bike becuase everything is kind of close but Botucatu is hilly town.

Overall experience with IAESTE

I'm satisfied. They helped me all the time. With filling out documents, keeping an eye on dates, accommodation or at begging in a foreign country, what is never easy.
Above all, they will find many opportunities for training abroad, which I would not be able to do by myself.
