Bc. Ha My Luongová, UCT Prague,
ročník 4About the country
Location of the place
Jaipur is in Rajasthan area at Northwestern part of India. We stayed and worked at JECRC College, which is located 40 minutes from the city center.
City
It is a beautiful city with many historical and marvellous monuments. Jaipur is also called Pink City. You can visit Hawa Mahal, Bapu Bazaar for shopping The nightlife in Jaipur is worth to experience as well. There are many things to do during the day-visitting coffee shops, shopping, visitting temples- Birla Temple, Akshardham Temple etc. People in Rajasthan are very warm and friendly compare to another areas they are very calm(sometimes a bit slow).
Surroundings (possible trips, ...)
Jaipur is located only 4 hours from New Delhi. There are many places to visit in Rajasthan area for example Jodhpur-blue city, Udaipur-city of lakes and Pushkar. Mostly we booked a bus for all interns. Agra is very close too. It takes 4 hours to Agra for Taj Mahal. We spent aprox. 5000 INR(1700 CZK) for a trip-depends how far it was.
Employer
Employer
My employer was Dr. Sonu Pareek- she is a professor at JECRC College. She was truly amazing, very effective and clear about her instructions. She was also very flexible, she was always trying to find the best solution for our project based on my plans and my wishes.
Work description
I was working in the university in the lab. My project was about synthesizing benzimidazole derivatives and testing their biological activity. In the end we had to pass the report(literature overview, experimental part, conclusion) and presentation about the project by itself.
Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
The salary was 15 000 INR per month. We payed 10 000 INR for accomodation and university canteen. 5 000 INR is enough for hanging out, but not enough for trips around.
Language requirements
Everybody speaks English, but lab technicians don´t speak english properly(google translator needed)
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
We lived in the campus hostel provided by IAESTE. I shared dorm with 2 girls. We all had our private room and shared bathroom. The hostel is very dirty there are rats as well. There is a curfew as well. You have to be back until 10PM(that was supe r annoying). On the other hand we lived in the campus, so everything was nearby-university and canteen.)
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
IAESTE member picked me up at the airport, they were very helpful. Most of the time they were around and helping us with what was necessary. Mostly interns and members worked in the same office, so we spent a lot of time together. Trips were organized by members in the beginning, but we had differrent expectations from the trip. We started to plan our own trips then. After we arrived the took us for buying a simcard right away- unlimited calls, messages and 1 GB per day.
Meeting other foreign students
Interns were amazing. They were around 20 interns. Because of the curfew, we couldn´t spend nightlife together very often. We spent a lot of time in the IAESTE office together-the office is really nice, big and comfortable. There are shops in front of the campus. We have spent a lot of time in juice shop and a little restaurant in front of the campus.
Sport and culture
Indian people are very passionate about cricket. We were lucky enough to try this game by ourselves. We had cooking fiesta-every intern was cooking food from their country.
Food, local specialties
I can write a book about food. Food in the university canteen was not bad, but after few weeks, we couldn´t eat the same food again anymore. Mostly veg restaurant were available, but in the city center nonveg was available as well. I definitely recomment Dosa or Paneer.
Other information
