About the country

Location of the place

Warsaw - the capital city of Poland, with population around 2 M.

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)

Warsaw is situated almost in the centre of Poland, so each direction from the city you choose, will always offer something interesting. For example seaside, with Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot. Then Krakow near border of Slovakia, with mountains Vysoke Tatry and town called Zakopane. Or, Wroclaw with almost 500 small statues of dwarves in the centre. Possibilites are almost infinite... And of course, the capital city where you can stay for weeks and still be able to discover something new.

UNIPRESS (Institute of High Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences). I worked in a group dealing with nanoparticles, their usage, their characterization. In our group, also method called sonocoating had huge importance for coating of nanoparticles on various surfaces.

Work description

Nanomaterials (silver or gold nanoparticles) and their use for coating of medical devices.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

2400 zloty per month, but I paid taxes (31%). Yes, it was possible to survive.

Language requirements

english, B2

Accommodation (price, who provided it)

IAESTE, different price for June and for holidays, together around 1500 zloty for whole stay. I stayed in a dorm

Social life

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)

My buddy waited for me and then took me from bus station to the dorm, another day, helped me with documents, etc., then we did not meet again.

Meeting other foreign students

Dorm and IAESTE events with another trainees.

Sport and culture

With the people from my company we played football each Tuesday, we also played tennis and beach-volleyball. Culture - I stayed in the capital, with population around 2M and very long history, so maybe one year will be not enough... Museums, free city tours, parks, pubs, clubs - you will find there everything you need.

Food, local specialties

Food is cheaper than in Czech republic, very delicious, so many options.

Other information

Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic

Without problems

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place

If you like bigger cities which do not sleep, just do it and go there.

What not to forget with you

The will to see and experience something new

Benefits of the internship

New place, new people, new company. You need to speak in english or in polish language. I worked on the same field but from the different perspective, so I needed to learn something new and to use it in practice.

Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country

Without problems

Overall experience with IAESTE

It was my second time with IAESTE. This programme is similar to Erasmus+ but different. You can choose from variety of work offers and to work in the companies from all over the world. So, I can recommend to everybody IAESTE.
