City
Hong Kong is a multicultural centre. I personally liked its view full of high skyscrapers. It is packed with people, which is best seen in MTR. MTR is a great way of transport, pretty fast and not so expensive, usually cheaper the buses. You can also take ferries, but make sure you are there on time as a lot of people wants to use it too and space is limited. For each kind of transport you can use Octopus card to pay, you can charge it at every 7-eleven, KCircle and MTR station, so it is super easy and convenient to use.
Surroundings (possible trips, ...)
Hong Kong is a big city surrounded by amazing countryside. There is plenty of places to see! From many nice temples and pagodas, exploring the big neon city that never sleeps, to beautiful hikes through the Hong Kong nature. I visited something else every weekend and had a great time! IAESTE HK even prepared a boat trip for us with a great seefood lunch.

I worked at the university laboratory carrying out a research for DR. Yao Zhongping. I met him only once and he was very nice and easygoing. I mostly worked with his Phd students, who took a great care of me. Explained everything at the laboratory and took us for lunch to various restaurants every day :D
Work description
I worked on a research of one of the Phd students in a pair with another intern, we had chance to decide what we want to work on. It was interesting and personally I learned a lot. Especially I got to know the whole process of carrying out a research, going through a lot of literature and writing a report afterwards.
Laboratory was very modern and well equipped, I had chance to work with latest instruments (GCMS, LCMS).

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
Yes, salary was sufficient. It should be fairly enough for food and accomodation, (travelling even if you don't spend too much money in expensive restaurants).
However make sure you bring enough money as you get your payment in the end of each month (25th). It is in a form of a paycheck and there is a bank in the Uni to change it to money (usually took about 15 min). But do not worry IAESTE HK will tell you all the information you need to know!

Language requirements
You should be able to communicate in English on daily basis, B1 should be enough I guess. I had no problems communicating at the uni.
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
I stayed at dorms (Ho Man Tin halls.. the new, reconstructed, very nice), as well as all the other interns. It was provided by the uni/IAESTE, I payed 88 HKD per one night. Dorms were very nice, great equipped and modern. There is even a gym for free(unlock your card atthe recetion though), band room, dancing room, game room, football tennis, table tennis... If you stay at the same dorms,go to 19th floor, there is super nice view.
You will stay in room with one or two other people. Every floor is divided on half in the middle either by garden or by some social room for gatherings, every part of eachfloor is for one gender (no boys and girls rooms together). Every floor has two kitchens, equipped with drinking water and boiler, microvawe, induction cooker, common fridge. You need to get your own plate, silverware, pot, pan, mug or whatever equipment you wanna use.

Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
IAESTE took a great care of us. I went from the airport on my own by airport bus A22 (cheapiest option), but it was super easy and we had a meeting on one of the bus stops with my buddy (IAESTE member). She then showed me to halls and checked in with me. The first work day I had a meeting where IAESTE told us everything important. We had several events, welcoming dinner and farewell lunch, boat trip and few smaller gatherings. They created FB group and Whatsapp group for communication between interns.
Meeting other foreign students
We had the groupchat on Whatsapp, when somebody planned to go on some trip, usally wrote to the chat and whoever wanted, joined him. I met a lot of new people, cultures and it was super nice to learn from/about them!
We even plan to see each other in the future and do some road trip with the Europian part of trainees.

Sport and culture
Gym at dorms, I went every other day. Swimming poll, gym, tennis court, squash court badminton court and more at the Uni. It was perfect!
I even tried surfing for the first, second, third and fourth time here, so you can see it was great :D Big Wave Beach, the best! Surf rent for the whole day only 40 HKD.

Food, local specialties
Food is great here! Not that much of fresh vegetable though, more like soups, lots of noodles. Their milk tea is pretty good, especially with tapioca pearls.
Try Noodle soup with fish/beef dumplings, dim sum (One Dim Sum, Tim Ho wan-the best), teppanyaki, pepper lunch, these are great!

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place
It rains a lot, bring umbrella or buy here (25 HKD). They are crazy with AC (air conditioning), outside is 32°C, inside they cool it down to 18! Bring one hoodie or jacket, even though its hot location.
What not to forget with you
socket converter(english type)
Benefits of the internship
Well I had a great time, met a bunch of lovely peple and will never forget this as it was the best summer in my life! Communication in English also.
Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country
There is a IAESTE office with office hours so no problem.
Overall experience with IAESTE
I love IAESTE.
