Poland is located in Middle Europe. It´s capital is Warszaw.

City

Lodž is located in the middle of Poland. It has many monuments and historical sights which you can visit. Also Lodz has had big Jewish community, which can be seen in the city.

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)

"I would definitely recommend visiting Manufaktura, Piotrkowska Street and all of it´s statues, Old Jewish Ghetto. As for nature there are many many parks, do there is lot´s of green all around.
Also close by is Poznan or Torun. Little far away is Warszaw or Crakow, but it definitely is something everybody has to see. As for the sea, I would recommend Gdansk or Sopot. "

Employer

I was emloyed at Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine. It is located in almost north of the city Lodž.

Work description

I was helping with a study on truck drivers. They had a truck simulator and we put a holter, EEG cap, constant blood pressure monitoring device and impedance device on a patient. And we measured how the fatigue is making the drivers feel. They drove once after a night shift and once after a day of rest. When we didn´t have patients I was researching studies that are similar to ours, so that it could be used in a study they were writing.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

I had 1400 PLN per month, so that was sufficient. If you weren´t crazy with it, you could even go on a trip somewhere.

I stayed at dorms for medical students and local IAESTE paid for it.

Social life

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)

I met my guy, who was responsible for me, at bus station and we went to dorms. Later I met other members when I was out with them.

Meeting other foreign students

I met other students either in my dorms or at some event.

Sport and culture

"When I was there it was just the football finale and Poland was fighting for the title.
For culture I went mostly for historical sights of which there are many. I went to the cinema at Cinema city in Manufaktura."

Food, local specialties

I tasted Podplomyk it was good. And they have this baguette which looks like pizza, but I can´t remember the name.

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place

I would recomment it, it was different from normal student life. You don´t just get to live in different country and try to understand people if they speak completely different language. You just talk with hands and hope they understand, if they are not speaking English :D

What not to forget with you

Things for cooking, everything that is there is somebody´s, dorms don´t have basic stuff for cooking like pans and plates. You should bring at least one roll of toilet paper, you can buy more later, but just something to get you started. And of course, cable to connect to the internet.

Benefits of the internship

Different country, different people, different language. So you see new place, learn little bit of another language and meet many new people. Of course, your English is better at the end. And you have something you can write into your CV :)
