About the country

Location of the place

University Campus is 15 minutes from town by matatu (small van for public transport).

City

Nyeri is small town, and lies 150 Km from Nairobi. In center of town is everything what you need, many pubs, bars and supermarkets.

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)

Nyeri is at a relatively high altitude at the foot of the highest mountain of Kenya- Mt. Kenya. There are many possibilities for excursions in the area (Mt. Kenya, caves, Nyeri hill, forests, university farm...)

Work description

Assistance in projects by local students. I helped with welding, machining, modeling of components in Autodek Inventor.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

15000 KES per month. It's enough to get the accommodation, internet to your phone and lunches.

Accommodation (price, who provided it)

Accomodation was in university hostel with own security. Everyone had own room. Washrooms and toilets are in the hallway.

Social life

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organised events...)

I was picked up at the airport by an university driver, and the organization laughed a little at the university.

Meeting other foreign students

Everyone was very kind and friendly. Almost all guys were from Germany.

Sport and culture

I regularly went to softball workouts with university team, one times I was in Nairobi in the tournament.
In the Nyeri are many pubs a clubs.

Food, local specialties

My most famous food were beef stew with beans and pilau (rice with beef and spices), samosas and smokies.

Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic

Over internet connection- it is cheapest way.

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place

Take it with you hiking equipment, you can join to hiking to Mt. Kenya.

What not to forget with you

Warm clothing, the average temperature is about 22 degrees per day, at during th night it can be even 10 degrees. Repelents, mosquito net.

I improved my english, known the kenyan culture and found a many new friends.
