Location of the place

Norway is a beautiful Scandinavian country with fjords and mountains.

City

Oslo is capital of Norway. There are many cultural and art activities. In Oslo, it is very good public transport. T-Bane (subway), local train, buses, trams and 2 airports.

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)

You can visit Frogner park with naked statues or National gallery and other museums and theatres. Oslo has beautiful fjords and ferry is included in public transport. Also, the city is surrounded by small mountains with lakes, where you can go for hiking. In winter, it is so popular to go to cross country ski.

Employer

Small company about 10 employees. They are a focus on mapping of wastewater and rainwater in cities.

Work description

My work description was established remote access to PLC and worked on SCADA system. I was working on new Alarms system, data storage, developing web SCADA and testing

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

18000NOK but 35% tax deduction

Local IAESTE found me an accommodation in Grorud It was 10 minutes to the work by metro. I was living in a big apartment with 3 more people. Where I had my own room. The price was 6000NOK/month.

Social life

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)

Every Monday IAESTE had a meeting at university, where invited also a trainee. And also during summertime, IAESTE organised weekends (Bergen, Oslo, Mountain, ...).

Meeting other foreign students

I was in contact with other trainees in Oslo.

Sport and culture

Very popular is hiking. In winter, it is also popular to go on cross-country ski.

Food, local specialties

Norway cuisine is focused on game and fish.

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place

It is necessary to have enough money to pay two rents and survey the first month. Also If you are staying longer than 3 months, book the appointment at a foreigner police. It can take more than 3 months to get there.

What not to forget with you

Hiking shoes, raining jacket, sports clothes, sleeping bag.

Benefits of the internship

The internship was full of benefits. I have improved language and communication, get many useful contacts, improved my CV and all other professional skills.

Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country

From the local IAESTE, they took me to the office for foreigner workers and help me to apply for a tax number. Also, they take me to the company for the first time. When I need something they were helping me.
