About the country

Location of the place

BiH is a country in Southeastern Europe located on the Balkan Peninsula. Sarajevo is the capital and largest city. Bordered by Croatia to the north, west, and south; Serbia to the east; Montenegro to the southeast; and the Adriatic Sea to the south, with a coastline about 20 kilometres (12 miles) long surrounding the city of Neum. In the central and eastern interior of the country the geography is mountainous, in the northwest it is moderately hilly, and the northeast is predominantly flatland. The inland is a geographically larger region and has a moderate continental climate, with hot summers and cold and snowy winters. The southern tip of the country has a Mediterranean climate and plain topography.

City

Mostar is beautiful city in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina. Inhabited by 113,169 people, it is the most important city in the Herzegovina region, its cultural capital, and the center of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton of the Federation. Mostar is situated on the Neretva River. For me was the most beuatiful thing there The Old Bridge, built by the Ottomans in the 16th century, is one of Bosnia and Herzegovina's most recognizable landmarks, and is considered one of the most exemplary pieces of Islamic architecture in the Balkans.

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)

There was a lot of possible trips. It was city Kravica (waterfall) or Neum (sea) or Sarajevo (capital city) or Split (port, sea) or Blagaj (village-town) or Medugorje (religion) or Makarska (sea) or Široki Brijeg....

Work description

I worked on a field with commercialist and worked in a office with distribution of products.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

I received 600 BAM per month. It was sufficient for local conditions like accommodations, food and other activities.

Language requirements

Bosnian language is very similar with our language. So its not problem with communication there. But English is not very popular.

Accommodation (price, who provided it)

It was at student´s college from IAESTE Mostar. It was nice, new and big room. It was not expensive, around 125 euro /month.

Social life

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)

I met members of IAESTE Mostar every day. One of them pick up me at bus station and helped me with accommodations. Every day or two days they went with us to pub or somewhere.

Meeting other foreign students

When I was there were 7 students. They were from Czech republic, India, Turkey, Austria, Spain, Poland.

Sport and culture

Most favorite sport was drinking beer and karting center.

Food, local specialties

Typical food there were Burek, Ćevapi, Pljeskavica, Bosanski lonac, Ispod saća, Sudžuk, Sarma.

Other information

Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic

We were connected on wifi from HOTEL CITY, because student´s wifi was locked.

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place

Take a swimsuit, not a lot of clothes.

What not to forget with you

Dont forget swimsuit, towel, insect repellent, money.

Benefits of the internship

It looks good in CV.

Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country
