About the country

Location of the place

Ohrid in Macedonia. 2 hours from Skopje. 4 hours from Thessaloniki. Nearby Albanian border.

City

Ohrid is the most beautiful city which i visited in Macedonia,definitely worth to visit. There is historical part and soo many churches (365). There is lake which is really clean.

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)

There are many places to visit around- albanian border, Saunt Neu, Greece, Skopje,National Park Galicica..Beautiful nature, mountains everywhere.

Employer

I was working at university of Computer Science. Job descripion was really general in my o-form. They decided what's gonna be my work after my arriving. We had home office so basically we had a lot of free time. Usually we had 1-2 per week meeting with our mentor in university. University assign us to project which they were doing for company CungaLunga.

Work description

We were working on mobile app for company CungaLunga. We should create interactive games for children. I don't have adequate skills for that so i didnt do much but i guess that it could be good experience for someone who know more about developing mobile app games.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

13000 MKD per month. Half of that we paied for accomodation. It's REALLY cheap in Macedonia,but bc that expensive accomodation i think that the salary could be better (or cheaper accomodation).

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)

They didn't picked-up me at the airoport. I was lucky that I contacted national center before my arriving (bc they didnt answering my questions about my arriving). They picked me up in Ohrid, but they didnt pick-up my trainee- friend. They had really mess in that and they didnt care much.
We were 2-3 times in pub.We had to do our own program. They were all the time busy...

Meeting other foreign students

We were living in one house. We were every day together. There were 4 other trainees.

Sport and culture

i was swimming almost every day in lake. it was AWESOME. You can also hiking there. They usually have trainess after 15th of August when their's exam period starts. In Ohrid it's the end of summer session so there are few last cultural events. But during summer is some cultural event(mostly concert) almost every day.

Food, local specialties

Great and cheap food. You can eat on the lake coast like king for small money. It's possible to eat in restaurant more times per week.

Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic

I have no problem with communication with Czech Republic.

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place

I think that it mostly depend what group of trainees you will meet there. You will spend almost all your time with them so they are almost 'all your life' there. I had a lot of free time so you have to fill that somehow to avoid to get bored. There is usually around 5 trainees.
