About the country

Location of the place

Lebanon , officially the Lebanese Republic, is a sovereign state in Western Asia. It is bordered by Syria to the north and east and Israel to the south, whilst Cyprus is west across the Mediterranean Sea. Lebanon's location at the crossroads of the Mediterranean Basin and the Arabian hinterland facilitated its rich history and shaped a cultural identity of religious and ethnic diversity. At just 10,452 km2, it is the smallest recognized country on the entire Asian continent.

City

Its a capital. Its similar to Prague just more dust. There are shops, malls, pubs, clubs, restaurant, etc. Unfortunately, there is no undergroud and alltime is a traffic jam. I never met terrorists in Libanon. :P

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)

Members of IAESTE Libanon prepared trips for us every weekend. I visited Shouf, Baalbek, Tripoli, Byblos, Museum of Hisballah, Cedars of Gods, national park, etc. In Libanon is a lot of possibilities to travel or just clubbing.

Employer

Employer

I worked at AUB. Its second the best university on Middle east. Campus of AUB is really nice. There is private beach, swimming pool, gym and also faculties. Its just one "green" place in Beiruth.
People at university are kind and helpfull. I had no problems with employer(my boss) during my internship.

Work description

Honestly, I did nothing. I watched workers, sometimes i make notes for my boss. I worked 4 hours per day. I sit in groundfloor and wathed youtube channels. :P So, I had enought time to discover new places in town.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)

800 $/7 weeks. minus tax (6% for student) is it 740 $/7 weeks. It was enought for me, but i cooked for me and I had local food from my roommate.

Language requirements

Employer required "good" level of English in oform. At AUB everybody speaks English very well. I alived this internship with my "Czenglish" so dont be afraid.

Accommodation (price, who provided it)

Accommodation was for free. Room was provided from AUB. I shared my room with student of AUB. One bathroom is common for four rooms. Its little ZOO. You can see ants, roaches and other insect. In campus are "wild" cats.

Social life

Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)

Noboby picked up me at the airport because my flight has delay 2 hours. IAESTE (Sara) ordered taxi for free for every trainee.

Meeting other foreign students

We (IAESTE trainees) were accommodate in dorms. So, we met each other every day. In from of dorm, somewhere in campus, in pub, etc.
With me were in Beiruth next 12-14 trainees.

Sport and culture

I went jogging every second day with other trainees. Green field is for free. Gym, swimming pool or beach cost 3000 LLB (48Kč).

Food, local specialties

Sorry, I dont remember names, but you can see it on pictures.
Food was really delicious. They eat a lot of chicken meet and vegetables with pita bread.

Other information

Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic

Recommendations for students who will go to the same place

Be patient. Be patient. Be patient.
Everything in Libanon is slow, late, but OK. Just join this slow flow of thinks and let it be. Its diferent style of live. Dont hurry.

What not to forget with you

mandatory: passport, money, mobile phone with powerbank
recommend: smile, brain, suncream

Benefits of the internship

I met new friends from foreing countries. I visited country diferent culture, its lerned mě many new things about religions, family And gave me new wiev to my life.

Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country

Cooperation was great. I sent just two mails and everithink was clear. Sara answered me quickly. (1 - 2 days later). When I came Sara was really helpfull and kind.

Overall experience with IAESTE

Internship was great experience for me. I met new culture, new friends from Europe and Libanon too.
I believe that IAESTE can change your live.
