Tunisia is located in the northern part of the African continent and its neighbors are Libya and Algeria. Only 137 km by sea divides Sicily from Tunisia. The current population is around 10,8 million inhabitants. The official language is Arabic and the main religion is Islam.

Tunis is one of the biggest cities that are located in North Africa. The main city street is named after Habib Bourguiba, the first president of Tunisia. It is lined with buildings, banks, trading companies, government agencies and other institutions. Residential district metropolis located mostly in the north, facing the Belvedere Gardens. In all areas of life in Tunis and overall it is significantly noticeable French influence.

IAESTE Tunisia members organized a trips for us every weekend, for example sightseeing trips in cities (such as Carthage, Djerba, Sousse, Tunis, Tabarka, Nabeul, Gammarth, Hammamet, Skanes, Mahdia, Monastir, Port El Kantaoui, Yasmine Hammamet ...), then swimming in the sea, paintball, barbicue, trips to the Sahara desert on camels etc. During the week we explored spontaneous events such as cafes, restaurants, shisha, soccer, sumo fights :)

Groupement des Industries de Conserves Alimentaires (GICA). I worked with the others tunisian people in the lab.

Basic chemical and microbiological analysis of canned products, mainly tomato sauces, jams, sauces from chilli peppers (Harissa), olives, etc. As a part of the internship, I had the opportunity to visit the company processing dried tomatoes and organic olive oil.

Výplata 350 TND (4500 CZK) pokryla výdaje na ubytování a jídlo. Zbytek jsem platila ze svého. Výdaje putovaly zejména na výlety(ca 50 TND/výlet).

Salary 350 TND (4500 CZK) covered accomodation and food costs. The rest of my expenditures I paid from my money - basically for trips (ca 50 TND per 1 trip).

Communicative knowledge of English was sufficient. Basic French knowledge and effort to learn a little bit of Arabic, however, were a good icebreakers :) Tunisians will understand French rather than English. But do not worry, you can always communicate in English or "hands and feet" and it will be ok.

Accommodation via IAESTE Tunisia was cheap(around 70 TND / month), but the quality of accommodation was poor. Is no exception insects or other vermin. The room has only basic equipment - bed with one small table, fan and wardrobe. Internet is paid by you.

However, all trainees from around the world lived here, so this fact made it all much better. Well, multicultural evening parties in appartements were unforgettable! :)

Pick up at the airport without any problems, then taxi transportation (which is across Tunisia very good and cheap means of transport) to the residence. I went to work first few days with one of IAESTE member, then alone / in a group of interns who went in the same direction. Please note that public transport in Tunisia is bad. There is no timetable, everything is so crowded. In TGM trains I recommend (to girls)to buy a ticket to the first class - is slightly more expensive, but you will be safe from annoying and dangerous harassment from local people. Likewise, I recommend to girls to take a taxi in more people and when you are alone in a taxi, sit always in back.

We used to meet regularly every day at the residence. I also stayed at an apartment with three other students.

During the week many activities - depends on you! Soccer, walking, swimming, sunbathing, ice cream, coffee, culture, parties, fitness, jogging ..

Typical dishes are very spicy, but you will very quickly get used to it. All local and interns eat fastfood in Tunisia, where they offer traditional meals that are very good and very cheap. I recommend to try everything.

IAESTE members provided us with Tunisian SIM and USB, where we paid data and then be able to access the internet and make calls among ourselves cheaply. In my job I had no wifi.

I do not recommend this destination to someone for whom it is the first foreign experience. Also not good for people who like "all inclusive".

I suggest Tunisia to all the adventurous guys who are not afraid of great and bad experiences.

I recommend the length of the internship 1 month. It´s enough to gain experience in the company and trips.

And get ready for the warmth and kindness of all Tunisians.

Insight and patience - all things take long in Tunisia. Then long pants, long dresses and long skirts. Leave your miniskirts in the Czech Republic. Sunscreen. The French-Czech dictionary. Czech alcohol and souvenirs. Alcohol in Tunisia is very expensive and not very good.

A unique opportunity to meet people from all over the world! Breaking of some of my prejudices. Opportunity to visit the Tunisian food companies and laboratories. Practicing English and French. Learning about new cultures and especially Arab culture.
Characteristics that best describe the mentality of Tunisians is the hospitality and warmth. Throughout the internship I almost had a vacation mode.

They are great! They are hardworkers and you can see it in the quality of IAESTE Tunisia.
