About the country

Location of the place

Sorocaba is located in the southeastern region of the state of São Paulo and it takes 1,5 hours by bus from the capital state. São Paulo, state of southeastern Brazil, bordering on the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast and bounded by the states of Minas Gerais (northeast), Rio de Janeiro (east), Paraná (southwest), and Mato Grosso do Sul (west). São Paulo constitutes the heart of the Southeast, Brazil’s most developed and populous region.

City

Sorocaba lies along the Sorocaba River, a tributary of the Tietê River. Given town status in 1661 and made the seat of a municipality in 1842, Sorocaba is now one of the country’s major industrial centres. Manufactures include cotton and silk textiles, cement, fertilizers, lumber, aluminum products, electrical equipment, shoes, hats, alcohol, and wines.Given town status in 1661 and made the seat of a municipality in 1842, Sorocaba is now one of the country’s major industrial centres. he Sorocabana region has relatively low crimes rates for Brazilian standards, even in the largest city, Sorocaba. The south of the region is a poor area, which is not particularly dangerous to visitors, but it is wise to at least avoid displaying wealth and possessions there.

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)

In Sorocaba city you can visit the ZOO, parks or around Sorocaba there is a possibility of hiking in Floresta National de Ipanema. During weekends you can relax in Sao Paulo´s beaches too. Don´t forget Iguacu waterfalls ;)
