Work description
As an intern I have spent most of my time in the Center for International Cooperation and Enterprise Partnership located in the main college administration building. My everyday routine consisted of computer work and attending English language lessons. These were usually quite big with up to 45 students in one classroom. The individual classes were age-separated, ranging from 13 to 20 years of age and level of English varied from the very beginners up to advanced speakers capable of using multiple tenses. My task was to speak to the students and try to spark a conversation with them using basic phrases and common everyday topics.
When working on my computer I primarily focused on creating an educative presentation titled Introduction to Automotive Terminology. This presentation contains pictures with over 150 car and motorcycle related terms which I also organised into simple printable vocabulary sheets. All these materials can be used for educational purposes in the future.
One weekend I attended a major English language exam for around 500 people. My role as one of the examiners was to test and mark the speaking skills. Afterwards I was also responsible for correcting the grammar test and the writing exercise.

Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
2 000 000 VND per month. It was enough to cover just some basic food.
Language requirements
As an english teacher, I was required to have language skills according to my job, but I was only teaching students with very basic knowledge of English and even the speaking skills of local language teachers was not as good as you would expect.
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
Accomodation was provided for free by my employer. I had a private room in local dormitory, which was very poorly equipped, but it was sufficient for my 10 weeks of internship.
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
I was picked up at Noi Bai Airport by the college employee. I havent been contacted by IAESTE Vietnam during my internship.
Meeting other foreign students
I have met IAESTE intern from Thailand in the college campus and few others young foreigners who teach languages at the College.
Sport and culture
Vietnamese people love football and it is by far the most popular sport in the country.
Food, local specialties
Be prepared to eat rice almost everyday. Vietnamese specialities include Pho soup, spring rolls, fried rice, all kinds of meat as well as fish and seafood often accompanied by fish sauce and pickled vegetables. In the bigger cities you can visit Korean, Japanese or Chinese restauratns as well as western cuisine. Vietnamse food can be very cheap especially when bought on the street.
Other information
Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic
Via internet.
Recommendations for students who will go to the same place
Dont be afraid of anything, the place is safe and Vietnamese people are very friendly and will gladly help you with anything. If you are scared of mice and rats, you should consider a different destination. Be prepared to spend money on traveling.
What not to forget with you
Search for recommended vaccination few months before your departure. Anything else can be bought unless you are stuck in the countryside. Bring enough warm clothes if you are planning to stay during winter months (nov-feb).
Benefits of the internship
Seeing very different culture and meeting people from very different personal backgrounds which. Also trying teaching for the very first time was very valuable experience.
Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country
None.
Overall experience with IAESTE
Not much to complain about, everything went pretty smoothly. Only problem was, that the IAESTE job offer stated a salary of 3mil VND per month which turned out to be only 2mil VND per month. I was told that IAESTE Vietnam was responsible for the error, because they misunderstood the employer conditions. Apparently there was no secondary check of the internship offer before it was released.
