master Tomáš Zikmund, University of West Bohemia, year 5
About the country
Location of the place
small calm city, perfect location in the country for traveling, between Bogota and Medelin, safe with many posibilities for activities, warmer with higher humidity, in the valey with nice views on the mountains.
City
Ibague, many viewpoints around in the hils with beautifull view on the city, it seemed like slower more chilled living in compared the the european cities, cheap uber in comparison with public transport, many supermarkets, nice city for walking around, feels safe.
Surroundings (possible trips, ...)
many small vilages around in the hills, with different temperature and nature, cities like Bogota and Medellín are possible to visit with busses, also nice villages and places like Cocora valey with Salento or Murillo, many waterfalls and some hot springs around. Canion for nice walking tracks is near the city.
Employer
Employer
University of Ibague, civil engineering, really enjoyed to be surrounded by proffesors and students, recommended, also great people from local iaeste are located in the university campus.
Work description
It was very similar to what was written in o-form, simulations in specific programs on computer which I could choose, notebook was possible to get from employer. Research of new material structures and geometries with scientific approach. Discussion about results and next steps on daily basis. Writing reports and papers about the results.
Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
1 300 000 pesos, not too much, but that was not important for me, (it could be enought without traveling, going out to pubs, atc). Better to have some savings.
Language requirements
Profesor was speaking fluently english + there was space for learning spanish which was great (my host, other profesors in university and people around)
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
living with the host, mother of one of the employer of the university, really nice place in calm area with many pubs around. 500000 per month.
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
international day of meals, visiting local museum and botanic garden, traveling with other iaeste students from colombia to same lake for two days and more. The two people working for university and Iaeste picked me up on the airport, helped with everithing I needed, I had always feeling I have somebody to talk with about everything. Students from university really friendly were were cooking dinners and going out together.
Meeting other foreign students
Many, there were around 8 other student in the campus working (IAESTE interships), some of them were in the office next to mine. Were going in the pub after the work or for the lunch. Many local students.
Sport and culture
there were many activities in the campus for free, many sports such as football, paddle, pingpong, dancing classes and so much more, with trainers or just to play alone. In the campus there was also many culture activities for younger students finishing high school or international conferences.
Food, local specialties
was different but nothing really strange (tamales, bandeja paisa,...), generally enjoyed it.

Benefits of the internship
new friendships with international people, new comunication skills, I am more flexible. See how people live in different part of the world.
Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country
