About the country
Location of the place
Lodz is a large city with the population of around 700 000.
City
It's not a historical city, it started to spread out in he 19th century. It has a few nice landmarks, such as Manufaktura (former factory repurposed into a shopping mall) and the main street, Piotrkowska.
There are many large parks and also a Zoo. Museums have a free entrance on cetrain week days. There is not as much night life as in Warsaw or Krakow.

Surroundings (possible trips, ...)
Lodz is located in the middle of Poland, which makes it easier to reach other travel destinations. I would recommend visiting other large cities, such as of course Warsaw, also Krakow and Wroclaw.
Personally I found the northern part of Poland the most beautiful. The country has a nice seashore with many memorable places, such as Hel, Gdansk, Sopot, and others.

Employer
Employer
It was the Medical University of Lodz, department of Biochemistry.
Work description
It was the same as in o-form. I was mainly processing samples and doing qPCR. It was interesting, if a bit repetitive.
Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
It did not cover my expenses, but I did not try to be frugal.
Language requirements
My employees all had good English skills, in restaurants and other services it mainly depended on where I was visiting; people speak more English in touristic destinations.
Accommodation (price, who provided it)
The dormitory was provided by the University and it was free of charge, which was of course great. I did not live with other interns.
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
I was picked up at the bus station by my mentor, who was always extremely nice and helpful, whenever I needed help he did his best to give me advice. We have also spent a lot of free time together during the internship and went on trips.
Local IAESTE did not organise any events for the interns. I was the only medical intern at the time. I met interns from the other Lodz local center, Politechnika.

Meeting other foreign students
I got to know interns from other local center in Lodz, and also some Erasmus students.
Sport and culture
In Lodz there are many museums, parks, and cafes. In July, there was a city festival. I also went to an open-air movie theater Polowka, which is free, shows films in various outdoor locations and has a nice atmosphere.
Food, local specialties
I tried a few local dishes, I was personally most fond of pierogy. All in all, Polish cuisine is fairly similar to the Slovak one. The one thing that surprised me was the love of mushrooms.
Other information
Possibilites to communicate with the Czech Republic
I did not need to communicate with Czech republic.
Recommendations for students who will go to the same place
I would recommend getting a polish sim card - there was no wi-fi in the dormitory room.
What not to forget with you
An umbrella, as it rained a few times.
Benefits of the internship
I have gained new experience working in a laboratory, I had the opportunity to travel, and I got to meet new people.
Cooperation with IAESTE in the foreign country
I have only met one person from the Lodz local center, and he was very friendly.
Overall experience with IAESTE
Good - everyone I met was very helpful and competent.
