Simona Hudečková, Brno University of Technology,
ročník 3About the country
Location of the place
Tunisia is in the north of the Africa. It is a Muslim country. Tunis is a former colony of France and many people here speak Arabic and French
City
Tunis is the capital and the largest city of Tunisia. Around the eastern part of Tunis is the sea and there are many beautiful beaches. Public transport is chaotic in Tunis and it is better to take taxis which are everywhere.
Surroundings (possible trips, ...)
Every weekend, there was a trip organized by IAESTE Tunisia for example Djerba, Tabarka or Hammamet. We also went to sightseeing in Tunis such as Medina, Cartago, Sidi Bou Said.
Employer
Employer
I worked at Proddesign It is a small company that focused on interior design. There was one boss, two employees and one other intern.
Work description
During 6 weeks I worked on two projects. The first project was to design the administrative part of the industrial hall. And the second project was to design the interior of the store.
Salary (sufficient for local conditions?)
My salary was 450 TND for month. I paid 150 TDN for accommodation. If only accommodation, food and transport were paid from the salary, it would be enough. Food on the street costs around 7 TDN and public transport costs 1TDN.
If you want to go on trips, you will need extra money. One-day trips cost around 50 TDN. The South Trip cost 500 TDN.

Language requirements
Young people speak English very well. At work, my boss spoke English and my colleagues tried to speak English.
Tunisia is a French colony and most people also speak French. French is a advantage because older people don't know English.

Accommodation (price, who provided it)
I paid 150 TDN for accommodation. We were accommodated in flat for 5 people. The flat had kitchen, bathroom and three bedrooms.
Social life
Meeting IAESTE members (pick-up at the airport, organized events...)
IAESTE members from Tunisia spent their free time with us. During the week, they went to bars with us or went sightseeing with us. They organized trips and other activities for us on the weekends. Every evening we could spend time with other interns in the main room where we watched a movie, sang karaoke or played games.
Meeting other foreign students
All foreign trainees were accommodated in one building block so I met a lot of new people from different countries all over the world and made new friends.
Sport and culture
Tunisians are very friendly and kind. I had the opportunity to celebrate their biggest Muslim holiday with a family from Tunisia. It was a great experience and I am very grateful for it. I also got to know more about Muslim culture and tasted their traditional food.
Food, local specialties
Typical dishes are very spicy they add spicy Harrisa to everything. I enjoyed their Makaloup it is similar to sandwich and it is very tasty and cheap.
